SIOUX CITY, Iowa - (Box Score) Aubrey Siemon and Alison Lemon each recorded a double-double to pace Cedarville (Ohio) to a 75-50 first-round win over Taylor (Ind.) Thursday at the 19th Annual State Farm-NAIA Division II Women's Basketball National Championship at the Tyson Events Center/Gateway Arena.
With a record of 27-5, the Yellow Jackets move into the second round and will take on the winner of the Holy Names (Calif.)/Briar Cliff (Iowa) game Friday at 7 p.m. Taylor's second straight trip to Sioux City ends in the first round and the Trojans cap off their season at 17-12.
Cedarville entered the national championship on a two-game losing skid, but the offensive output by the Yellow Jackets suggested otherwise. Firing 43.5 percent from the floor and 46.7 percent from long-range, Cedarville was able to take control with a 50-23 halftime lead. Their attack didn't let up in the second stanza and continued to shoot over 46.7 percent. Lemon led all-scorers with 22 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, while Siemon registered 14 points and 12 boards. Two other Yellow Jackets were double-figure scorers with Rachel Hurley's 16 points and Caitlyn Brooks had 10.
Taylor did own the paint by scoring 30 points down low and got 16 points off the bench, but were ice cold from the 3-point line hitting only 2-of-14 tries. The Trojans attempted to comeback on the Yellow Jackets in the second half and outscored Cedarville 27-25. Leading the way for Taylor was Allison Reece with 13 points and Morgan McLeish's 10 points. McLeish was responsible for both of the Trojans 3-pointers.
